Trying to follow Queens Parade Clifton Hill developments?
So are we. Blinded, like in a snowstorm.
There’s 249–261 Queens Pde and 193 Queens Pde. There’s 243-247 Queens Pde. What about 26-56 Queens Pde, that’s the big beast in the planning design shown here. Man I’m confused. It’s a developers’ feeding frenzy …
Thank heavens for the fabulous Protect Fitzroy North Inc community group shining some light and rattling the cage on these affairs. They are brilliantly taking on the developers about 26-56 Queens Pde. Donate to them NOW to support their next VCAT fight on the reconvened 26-56 development proposal hearings on 4 September. Protect Fitzroy North needs $20,000 for legal costs.
There’s also another Save Queens Parade community action group working on 240-265 Queens Pde. They don’t have a website have some space on the Protect Fitzroy North website.
For some other points of view try:
- the Aus Fin Review Nimbyism or greed: Development battles turn nasty.
- read about property developer millennial tycoon Tim Gurner in the Chaser. (Couldn’t be fake news..)
- or try Crikey Is 16-storeys OK in the inner city?
Now it was great to see Yarra Council unanimously rejecting recent developer Gurner’s 16 story height proposals and asking for intervention from state planing processes. But 16 stories was just an ambit claim. Now they’ve put in an amended proposal.
What will VCAT say? Hmm, now just what do they usually say…
Hows about 12, or 10 or 8 or 4 stories. How’s about the NIMBYs vs righteous caring for space and place conundrum.
Show your support for the two community groups action at the two upcoming VCAT compulsory consultations (55 King St, Melbourne). Come any time from 9:00am to 4:30pm (unsure of lunch recess times).
26-56 Queens Pde hearings 4 – 14 September
What can the Minister for Planning say about all this? What can Yarra Council do?
Labor strongly supports young and low income people to share our very loverly Yarra dreaming. But we don’t want a wrecking all right through it all. Hard paths to tread.
